Atmanirbhar Bharat is most important for power sector since it is a strategic, sensitive sector for India. It is also important for power sector from security perspective. The need for imports in power should be very little and we have manufacturing capacity in transmission, generation, distribution segments. Power sector imports stood at Rs 71,000 cr in 2017-18. Foreign cos especially from China dumping equipment at low prices so we need to correct dumping of equipment & focus on domestic manufacturing. India is fastest-growing country in terms of renewable energy capacity and we have sufficient manufacturing capacity for solar modules. The solar cell capacity in India, currently, at half of what we require. We will replace existing duties with basic customs duty to reduce import reliance in power sector, says Power Minister, RK Singh to ET NOW.
