Gains in the market were led by banking stocks; Nifty Bank, the banking sub-index of NSE was up 3.50%. IndusInd Bank was the top gainer, up 7% followed by Axis Bank and Bajaj Finance, which rallied 4.93% and 4.85% respectively. Bajaj Finserv, IOC, L&T, ICICI Bank, ONGC, HDFC Bank, BPCL, Hindalco, Grasim, Gail and M&M were the other prominent gainers in the Nifty, rising between 1.67%-4.75%.
